Milkweed Girl I Original
The Milkweed Girl Series is my anthropomorphic take on the relationship between the milkweed plant and the monarch butterfly. The milkweed plant is the sole provider for butterflies across their entire life cycle, yet are often cast away as unimportant weeds.
The first portrait in this series is a loosely inspired self portrait, where strong features and stares are becoming consumed by monarchs. As a woman, I know I am not alone in feeling used and discarded in the wake of someone else’s pursuit.
24x36 Acrylic and oil pastel on canvas original. Comes framed in a dark floater frame.
