When I’m trail running, I often think about the other graceful animals who can move so much more efficiently on the trails than me. Usually I think about deer, mountain goats, bears, and wolves. But I’ve seen quite a few cows and bulls run through their pastures, and I was struck by their grace and ability to MOOOOve so well through complicated terrain. Cows are surprisingly great trail runners, and I aspire to move as freely as a young roping steer heading towards breakfast through a field of balsamroot.
